1. Pick a good niche
A good niche is the main driving force of your blog’s success. It’s difficult to adjust the niche after you launch your blog. So picking a niche is very hard work.
If you select one of the best money-making niches you might not be knowledgeable about it or you will uninterested after a few days. And you couldn’t make much profit if you chose a niche around your hobby.
So don’t go with either one, pick both. Write on a document or a note about every niche you are knowledgeable about and have an interest in writing. Then choose one that is most lucrative.
2. Domain name availability
There are thousands of blogs about most of the niche. So finding your preferable domain name harder said than done. Don’t go with a keyword stuffed domain name. Choose a brandable name.
Firstly write on a note every domain name you can think then check if the domain is available. You can check the domain availability with Bluehost domain availability.
3. Compare Hosting
You need a good hosting service in order to set up a site. A good hosting service has a good speed and uptime. Speed and uptime are one of the key factors of ranking your site on Google.
If you are just starting a blog, good shared hosting should be enough for you. I recommended going with Bluehost. Their shared hosting starts at 1.95/mo with a free domain name.
4. Select a blogging platform
To start a blog, with domain and hosting you will also need a blogging platform. There are many blogging platforms you could use including WordPress.com, Blogger, Wix, Weebly, and the most popular self-hosted WordPress.
Every platform has its own advantages, but WordPress is the most useful. You should determine which platform you are going to use before launching your blog. With Bluehost hosting, you can install WordPress with a click of a button.
5. Create your logo
You should get your logo made before starting a blog.
A logo is a graphic form of the brand name. A unique logo makes the blog easily recognizable. You can create a logo by yourself with Adobe illustrator or hire someone to do it.
6. Social media availability
Social media is an effective tool for getting massive traffic to your blog. You should have the same name as your blog for all social media. It lets people easily find your blog on all social media.
It is very difficult to identify a connection between the two social media accounts if you have a Facebook page called “Mypetmax” and a Pinterest name “Mypetdog”.
You should check if the social name is available before launching your site and purchasing a domain name. Go to the Namecheckr website and look for the name and you can see if it is available on all social media.
7. Pre-write 5-10 posts
Although you don’t need to write some posts before launching your site, if you have some posts prepared in advance it will be very beneficial.
You don’t want the visitors to see a blank page or website with 1 or 2 entries while posting your site on social media, Right?
You can post immediately if 5-10 posts have been planned in advance. After you share your blog on social media visitors will see a well-prepared site. It will increase your site’s page view and decrease the bounce rate.
8. Learn SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
If you write good quality content, Google will rank your blog high, but your chances would be better if you use SEO.
You don’t have to know advanced SEO as a beginner blogger. Even with basic SEO, you can rank your blog in Google.
It’s recommended that you learn some basic SEO before you start blogging.
Depending on your learning ability it takes approximately 1-3 months to learn basic SEO and 5-8 months for advanced. Begin learning SEO before you begin blogging.
9. Learn a little coding
However, you can understand your site better with some coding skills. You don’t need to learn all the coding. Just learn some basic HTML and CSS.
If you are gonna use WordPress should research a bit about their block elements, plugins, and themes.
10. Pre decide your theme
The theme is mainly responsible for your site appearance. Choose a theme before you start your website, so you can install it immediately after starting your blog.
Depending on your budget, you can choose a free theme or a paid one. Pick one that is fast, responsible, and mobile-friendly.
11. Research and study other blogs
Regardless of your understanding of your chosen niche, researching and reading other blogs in the niche is always a wise decision.
It will inspire you and help you to even learn even more. You can also find out which topic they didn’t describe properly and take advantage of it by describing it on your blog.
Search different queries on Google, find the best blogger in your chosen niche, and read their blog.
12. Set up a blogging schedule
You should establish a blogging schedule if you want to become a successful blogger.
Make a plan, time your schedule, set up how many posts you will write in a week, and how many hours you will work each day.
Set up your blogging schedule even before you start your blog. It helps you discipline yourself. Keep a daily writing target and don’t wait for the day you need to post to start writing.
13. Gain Some Basic Tips And Knowledge
Learning some basic tips and knowledge about blogging will be very helpful to you. It allows you to prevent making mistakes. I will list some fundamental blogging Tips you should know.
Write a longer post
Google likes posts that are long. Long post has more date and it will show that you are in dept knowledgeable about the topic.
As a beginner blogger don’t bother writing a 2,000-word post. Start at low. Try to write your post within 800 to 1,500 words.
Ranking on Google takes 3 to 6 months
When you post articles, it won’t appear on Google immediately. After some time, only a small number of searches will show your site because the ranking takes some time.
It usually takes 3 to 6 months for a site to rank on google. So don’t be discouraged if you don’t get much traffic in the first few months.
Don’t use copyrighted images
Photos are a very important element of a blog. But don’t just download a copyrighted image from the internet and use it on your blog.
You may face a legal charge for using them or the image owner can get your post removed from search by reporting it.
Add your sites to all search engines
Many beginners only add their site on the Google Search console. Others such as Bing, Yandex, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo are overlooked.
They don’t realize that they are missing a lot of potential traffic source. So don’t make the same mistake as them and add your site to all search engines.
Use low volume and long-tail keywords
As a beginner blogger don’t use highly competitive 1-2 word keywords and high volume keywords. Cause you won’t be able to rank higher than the sites which existed for a lot of years. Use some low volume long-tail keywords.
Update old articles
Google likes fresh content. That’s why an old post from years ago that hasn’t been updated loose rank on Google. So make it a routine to refresh your old post every four to five months.
You don’t need to change the entire content. Only add some new material, update the date of publication, and post again. Make sure the Permalinks are not changed.
Regularly back up the content of your website. Some bloggers don’t back up their contents and they lose all their website data if the hosting company faces a hardware failure.
You can install VaultPress (Jetpack Backup) or UpdraftPlus for backup service if you’re running your blog on WordPress.
Get a business email
With $2.95 per month, you will get a free domain and an email account with Bluehost hosting.
Monetize your blog immediately
After launching the blog, don’t wait for your traffic to grow before monetizing it. You never know one or more of your posts might go viral. Therefore you might lose a lot of potential revenue.
Immediately monetize your blog. There are many Ad Networks that has no traffic requirements that you can choose.
